September 4, 201312 yr Hi there, I'm on OSx (ML) and since I upgraded to 5.0-final, the -SMB copy of my server is showing up on my Mac. I have AFP and NFS disabled, so the only service running is SBM. Before the upgrade, that meant I saw just a single "tower" shared server from my box, now I have a "tower" and "tower-SMB" listing. They appear to have the same shares and everything. Rebooted a few times, but it doesn't seem to go away. Tried re-enabling AFP and NFS, verifying nothing is using either protocol, and disabling again - no change. Any ideas what would trigger the second SMB to show up now that wasn't there in the last RC's? Cheers, whiteatom
September 5, 201312 yr Avahi is enabled all the time, regardless of the AFP setting, as of one of the later RCs. Avahi is announcing the additional share I believe. There is no way to disable it as it was needed to address a bug. You can hunt through the "5.0-rc issues" forum for more details.
September 6, 201312 yr Author I did some digging... I see what you are talking about... Seems avahi is enabled so the Mac bonjour service can find the server, but that was working before. I'd say avahi should be a separate option. I guess this will all be moot when AFP is cut?
