Samba fast on wired, crawling on fast wireless

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Started using a bit more wireless around the new house, and came across something rather puzzling.

My unraid server is wired to a gigabit 801ac router, an asus ac66u model.

Wireless speeds are incredible as expected, have not tested for ultimate top speed but I know it can give me my fiber bandwidth (around 75Mb/s) in most places in the house. However, when I try to get a file from a share on my unraid server, the speed crashes down to less than 1MB/s, so around 10Mb/s roughly. Re-running a speedtest.net still gives me 75Mb/s at that spot. If I plugin a cable from the router, the file copy flies to what I would expect from the NAS, around 50MB/s.

So that tells me the UNRAID samba can serve properly, but something goes wrong over wireless. I know it is not the wireless itself either, so it must be a combination of samba over wireless.

Has anybody seen this before?

Thanks in advance!
