Creating a fresh USB boot, but with old config.

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm currently running a 5.0-rc15a instance. I'd like to install 5.0-rc on a NEW USB drive with the same setup I currently have running.

Is it as easy as just copying over my license file and config directory over, plugging it into and booting up? I don't want to touch the old USB drive, so I have it as a backup if required.

Many thanks!

No.  The key file is tied to the specific flash drive it's licensed for.

What you CAN do is simply copy the entire contents of your flash drive to a folder on your PC to back it all up.    You could then revert to your old setup by simply copying it all back if necessary.

... the exception is if you're running UnRAID Basic (i.e. just 3 drives)  ==> but since you mentioned that you have a license file, I'm assuming that's not the case here.

Ah I see, so if I copy the contents over to my hard disk, format the usb stick, install a vanilla copy of 5.0rc, then copy back the config directory and the key, I should be good to go?

Cheers.
