September 13, 201312 yr Hello all... I am in need of some help... Since my router no longer wants to support my VPN i was wanting to move my SAB and SB to a windows 7 VM and run the VPN client from there... Problem is that i cant boot the install ISO for windows... what i have done thus far... created 3 different VMs Created an ISO and D/Led 2 other ISOs all from different sources... changed the SCSI controller After trying all that i have not been able to boot the ISO... some times it does boot but after a min or two i get a blue screen of death... or when it boots it complains of a missing driver... everything that google has found is that the ISO file was currupted when Downloading... thus the 3 different ISO files that i have tried... and yet it's still not working... Yes the VMs do boot to the ISO but soon fail out... Im at a loss... Unraid boots/loads without fail... and yet windows fails... is this maybe a setting in the BIOS??? Thanks... matt

Thanks... matt You are not using a AOC-SASLP-MV8 in pass through to the Windows 7 VM are you? I got BSOD's when I tried to use a SASLP-MV8 in Windows 7. It would work with WHSv1 (XP) and unRAID but not Windows 7. When you say "changed the SCSI controller" are you meaning you went from SCSI to SAS or SAS to SCSI? If it is a problem with the booting of the ISO you may need to try a different IDE controller in ESXi as that is where the CD is usually connected. If so maybe try ICH(6 or 9?) instead of the default. Edit: And FYI: I don't believe the ICH change will actually make a difference as I'm using the default on 3 different Win7 VMs without a problem. It was just something to try.
September 13, 201312 yr On ESXi v5.1, I created a "Default" Windows 7 64-bit VM; didnt change and of the recommended settings. It automatically selected the "LSI Logic SAS" controller. I downloaded the X17-24208.ISO file you linked to and it installed just fine and made it through two reboots.
September 13, 201312 yr Author Huh... then I wonder what I am doing wrong or what Is different from my end... Has to be a bios setting... im gonna try a Ubuntu iso and see if I get the same error... Anyone got any ideas... im sure I enabled the correct setting is the bios... else unraid would function... correct? Thanks
September 14, 201312 yr Author No.. im not passing anything though... just a basic load... all default settings... any suggestions? Reload the vm again... download the iso... or possibly a setting in the bios...
September 16, 201312 yr Author Excuse you... Finally found out what the issue was... ram... had two bad ram sticks... I am in the process of ordering more... Strange that esxi and unraid functioned flawlessly with bad ram... Thanks all for the help...
