VM naming conventions

Featured Replies

My laptop and other devices on the network named for the show "Gilmore Girls" (don't ask... girlfriend got ahold of it one day and I never bother changing stuff back)

Likely story! It's ok to tell the truth, we won't judge much.

I think my downfall was admitting to her that I liked the show... and Alexis Bledel did not hurt the scenery any.

No she didn't!

And I learned to never admit anything like that to my wife. Hell, I still haven't admitted to her that I like goulash because since she thinks I don't like it (no idea how she got the idea but she swears I don't), every time she makes it one of my favorite meals follows the next night.

It's the little things!

I go for bird names for machines, anime characters for VMs :D

Using theme names for home servers that nobody else will access is fine, doing it at a company is the biggest headache, especially for third-party providers. Coming into an organisation and having to figure out what purpose 'Gandalf' has in an IT environment is a down right pain in the a$$  >:(

For the record my virtual servers are named UNRAID, WIN2012-DC01, WIN2008-EX01 etc

The company I work for names them according to location, which workstation it is or the functionality. For instance location 521's would be 0521ws4, the security feed is 0521dvr.
