September 25, 201312 yr Server just beeps the memory error code (5short 1 long) with this 2x8gb memory kit installed. Currently the 2x2gb kit is working well in this Motherboard. Do I blame Newegg's memory or is there something I need to do to make it work with this MB? MB reviews specifically mentioned this RAM as working... I just installed 2 new 8gb sims Kingston 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Registered w/ Parity DDR3 1333 Server Memory Model KVR1333D3Q8R9S/8G http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139280 Newegg shipped 2 simms that looked different, even though they both show the same KVR# Motherboard is an older one with 1.0c bios and a Sandy Bridge Xeon E31220 installed.
September 25, 201312 yr You bought registered RAM modules ==> these are NOT compatible with that board. The specifications clearly show UDIMM (Unbuffered) modules with ECC. r.e. "... BIOS or RAM to blame?" ==> Neither. You simply bought the wrong modules.
September 25, 201312 yr MB reviews specifically mentioned this RAM as working... If a reviewer mentioned those modules, he/she clearly posted the wrong link -- there's no way registered modules will work in that board. Remember "reviewers" are just customers ... you need to check out what they say rather than just accepting it at face value. Newegg's memory selector doesn't list that motherboard -- but their specifications for the motherboard are very clear r.e. Unbuffered modules.

The one you listed is out of stock at newegg.ca but they have the following: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239135 Reviewers state it works with the X9SCM boards.... Should we trust them??
September 25, 201312 yr That should work fine. While the reviews are worth reading, what you want to check is the specifications of the memory vs. the specifications of the motherboard. This module is Unbuffered, DDR3, ECC RAM => exactly what your board needs
