Help - server will not boot

Featured Replies

I went away on vacation. Closed down unraid server and unplugged it

But I didn't unplug the ethernet cable

We had a number of electrical storms while we were away that took out our cable modem and switch (both on surge protectors)

Now unraid server will not boot. No disk activity seen on power up. The cooling fans spin and the cpu fan spins. Both no boot.

Can you advise on my next steps? Seems I should try and identify the damaged parts but would appreciate pointers on what to do next

if I would hazard a guess you MB/CPU  is well done

maybe NIC card if it is external

take the HDD to another system at try boot it there

Well... This probably will not help but just to be sure:

1) check if your usb drive is still ok; chkdsk it on your pc;

2) hang a monitor on your server and check if you see the bios come up, if not: mothetboard needs replacement, if yes: check if the bios is still booting to your usb as primary

If you have a lot of luck then your bios settings might just be reset and your mothetboard is simply not booting from the usb.

If usb is ok, bios settings are ok you should see unraid booting. If unraid boots then log on from the console and go to /dev/ and see if you see your drives and their content.

If you see your data bur still cannot access it frim your pc then your networkcontrollerchip might be fried, put in another one and try again.

If you do not see your data then your drive controllers may be toast..
