October 1, 201312 yr Following the update guide from 5.0 RC 15 to Stable 5.0 release I have lost access to the main web interface and my shares have also disappeared. My upgrade path was: SHut down via unMENU, plug in flash drive to my Windows Machine, copy over the 3 required files, plug it back in and boot. Following the boot I decided to update unMENU as well, I probably should have checked if things were working first but I did not. At this point I noticed that my shared array was no longer present in windows, I could not navigate to it. The main web server is also not running from what I can tell. I am however able to browse to unraid:8080 (UNMENU) and it displays my array information, though the main interface is not accessible. I have since downgraded back to RC 15 but this did not undo the issues I created. Where can I start trouble shooting this? Any help is greatly appreciated, would really hate to start over with my media.
October 1, 201312 yr Author Thank you for the suggestion, I will attempt it when I get home in 3 hours. Can you please tell me how to boot into safe mode and what to do from there?
October 1, 201312 yr Thank you for the suggestion, I will attempt it when I get home in 3 hours. Can you please tell me how to boot into safe mode and what to do from there? safe mode is a startup option that you can select during startup.
October 1, 201312 yr Author Got ya, I am running headless which is why I did not know it existed. Once I boot into safe mode what should I attempt to do?
October 1, 201312 yr Author Logging in via Safe Made allows both web access and share access again. What information does this give? What can I do next? EDIT: The log file is after restarting back into normal mode and the shares are NOT working.
October 1, 201312 yr Author I corrected the issue. Seems like there was something going wrong with a plugin. I removed te plugins folder and reinstalled what I needed. I seem to be running issue free......for now That is until I try and modify the server again. Thanks for the help!
October 3, 201312 yr Author BUMP: This happened again today following a server reboot using the shutdown script. Some of the addons were reinstalled following my initial success. Attached is the log file, please advise. http://pastebin.com/cyW1zWgH EDIT: Restarted the server again and it is working....again. If someone can please have a look at that log I would appreciate it. Can it be that I am using the go script to mount a drive outside the array that is causing problems? Go Script... http://pastebin.com/EYLd8ihw
October 3, 201312 yr Author Thank but can you elaborate more. Which addon is causing it? What is it doing? Is it something that can be solved? Why does it only happen sometimes? Did you see something in the log file?
October 3, 201312 yr Thank but can you elaborate more. Which addon is causing it? What is it doing? Is it something that can be solved? Why does it only happen sometimes? Did you see something in the log file? I would suggest you disable ALL addons. Then enable them one at a time until you get the problem occuring again. Then you will know. It isn't possible sometimes to tell from a log which plugin is causing the problem and that is probably what is being implied here. I'm no good at reading logs from linux so I couldn't even make an attempt at determining it that way. I would just follow the suggestion I just gave you to determine which one was causing the problem then seek help on that thread to see if it is a known problem or new bug. My 2¢.
October 3, 201312 yr Author I was hoping it would be simpler to troubleshoot The worst part of this issue is it seems random. Disabling the addons may appear to fix the issue, or maybe it just decided to function correctly that time How would you go about disabling the addons? Should I just move them out of the plugins folder or through the unraid menu? I will check out the addon section and see if anyone reports similar issues, though I'm still open for other suggestions from the forum. Thanks again for the prompt replies everyone, I really appreciate it.
October 3, 201312 yr Look at dgaschk's signature. It explains how to go to default with no plugins. Problems like this are why I'm glad I virtualized most of my unRAID servers. That way I can run unRAID as close to stock as possible. Yes I still have a few plugins but just ones that help with unRAID health - Powerdown, drive over heat, etc.... Then anything I want to do that I could do with an unRAID plugin I do on a separate VM and can trouble shoot from an isolated linux/windows install. This does require server grade hardware and more horsepower than is needed for an unRAID server. It also will use more power since it would be harder/impossible to sleep an ESXi server. But for me - I needed to virtualize anyway for a Windows VM so it just made sense.
October 3, 201312 yr Adding 50% of remaining add-ons per test will isolate the problem most quickly. I.e., add 50% of add-ons and see if the problem exists. If not, then you know the issue is with the remaining 50%.
October 3, 201312 yr Author By addons, are we referring to the .plg addons, the packages installed via the unMENU pkg manager, or both?
