October 3, 201312 yr I didn't know if this belonged in Mobo or here... sorry if its in the wrong place. If my mobo has 2x SATA3 and 4x SATA2... am I OK mixing them for unRAID? Let's say I have a 3 disk setup. Can 2 drives go on the SATA3's and the parity go on a SATA2? Is the SATA2 a bottleneck then? Does it matter? Thanks. - Steven
October 3, 201312 yr Sure, that's no problem. And it makes virtually NO difference in performance ... although just for grins I'd put the parity on a SATA-3 port. The ONLY transfers that occur at interface speed are those between the disk's buffer and the PC ... all others are limited by the sustained transfer rate of the drives, which are FAR below SATA-2 speeds, let alone SATA-3. The only exception is if you happen to be using a SATA-3 SSD -- not likely except perhaps for a cache drive. If that's the case, be sure it's on a SATA-3 port.
