October 9, 201312 yr I have two unraid systems. I want to remove one of my drive from system 1 and move it to system 2 while preserving the data. Do I just stop array and assign the removed drive to my new system in the next available slot? Thanks
October 9, 201312 yr No, that will clear the drive before adding it so it preserves parity on the array. Do the following: (1) Do a parity check on BOTH systems to confirm all is okay -- if not, get that resolved before proceeding. (2) Now shut down the systems and physically move the drive. (3) Boot the system you removed the drive from, and do a New Config -- be SURE you assign the correct drive as parity -- and then Start the array and let it do a Parity Sync. (4) Boot the system you added the drive to, and do a New Config -- again be SURE you assign the correct drive as parity, and include the new drive in the configuration -- and then Start the array and let it do a Parity Sync. (5) When the parity syncs complete, do a parity check to confirm all went well. Done
