My array has been working fine frecently a drive was not recognized.  After a reboot without changing the drive I let unraid rebuild this drive.  This happened without incident and without any  errors.  I am now troubleshooting.  Unfortunately, I did not capture a syslog at the time of the error.

Anyway, Smart showed UDMA_CRC_Error_Count on this disk to be 8 (all smart data below).  I switched the sata cable.  The value of the udma crc error count remains 8.  I am wondering if this is a problem or is this a result of prior issues and will this gradually normalize..  Any info is appreciated.

SMART data counts increment over the entire life of the disk, they never "normalize" or zero.  If you see them continuing to grow, then it is a disk needing more attention.  Eventually, when a given count exceeds the manufacturer's threshold, the drive will be marked as "failed"

Don't worry, the disk will eventually fail...  ALL disks fail eventually, it is just a matter of waiting long enough.  ;)

The Raw values are sometimes meaningful and sometimes not.  It depends on the drive and the manufacturer.  Some values might be bit masks, making the number completely meaningless.  It seems to be common convention that the RAW temperature reading is the temperature in Celcius.  Your value of "8" may mean something and it may not.  Another user may have a gigantic value that is completely meaningless.

The "Value" column provides a normalized value between 0 and 255.  Higher numbers are GOOD, lower numbers are BAD.  If the value drops to the THRESH (threshold) value or below, that means the disk is expected to fail very soon.
