December 22, 200817 yr Uses the Silicon Image SiI3114 SATA controller chip, so is well supported. Probably comes with the RAID BIOS, but claims to readily be usable as a simple 4 port 'extension card'. Might be something you have to do when you install it, to get the right mode. From this page (note the use of 'un-RAID'): It can work as a RAID 0/1/0+1/5 HDD controller card or an un-RAID extension card for SATA device (HDD or SATA optical drive) If you don't active the RAID function, you can attach 4 SATA HDD as a normal extension card. $5 a port! But PCI and SATA150 only.
December 22, 200817 yr This is a great bargain. I've used this card in windows (xp pro - JBOD, vista x32 - JBOD and Raid0, vista x64 - Raid0) w/o issues. I did not ever put a boot drive(s) on it. The JBOD mode was its default. Setting up Raid went as follows: Put the card in the machine, boot up, load the drives while in windows, then power down and connect drives, then boot, then hit a key to go into the setup during the windows boot process and configured the drives there. It was real simple to use it JBOD, so I would be very suprised if it did not work with unRaid (but I never have put mine in, sorry). In the Windows and configurations listed above, it worked fine with Seagate (with their imfamous jumper removed), WD, and Samsung drives, all were 3Gb/s drives, but of course ran them as 1.5Gb/s. Since it is PCI, the bandwidth won't really let you hit the limits of 1.5Gb/s, much less 3Gb/s, which I am guessing why we don't see many PCI cards that are 3Gb/s. This is by far, the cheapest way to add 4 Sata ports. For a PCI only motherboard, this is a great choice imho to add sata ports.
December 22, 200817 yr Great find! But I don't see any free shipping. Put one in my cart and they wanted $8.24 to ship.

I used this card on my old unRAID setup.
