October 19, 201312 yr I did not preclear a new 4tb drive and it got the red ball. So I took it out of array and ran a preclear. The preclear only runs for about 30 minutes and never gets past step 2. October 20, 201312 yr It could be a bad or loose SATA cable. Reattach or replace the SATA cable and try pre-clear again.

Highly unlikely to be a cause of anything involving sectors pending reallocation. Far more likely for a bad/loose cable to cause CRC errors or timeout errors. RMA the drive. Don't waste time otherwise.
