October 30, 201312 yr This just randomly started and im not sure why... I can access my server and view all files there but heres my problem... I was ripping one of my blu-rays and was using imgburn to make an iso. I usually save the ISO right to my server so i dont have to move it from computer to server later. This time when i try to save it to it it wants me to enter a user name and password. Its already prefilled in with my server log in "root" and there was a password. I erased password and put in the password for my server and it has an option to remember credentials but it doesnt sign me in. Ive never seen this sign in before...? Any ideas? Thanks...using version: 5.0-rc12a
October 30, 201312 yr The first thing I always suggest if you're using an earlier release candidate is to upgrade the system to the stable v5.0 release. [Not worth the trouble to diagnose issues with betas/release-candidates.] THEN see if you still have the problem.
November 1, 201312 yr Author OK i updated to the latest stable 5.0 release. It still asks for credentials. I typed in nobody and it didnt work.; i tried nobody for user and blank for password and nobody for user and password still didnt work. I checked share settings in webgui and it says shares are enabled. This came on all of a sudden after years of never experiencing it.?
November 2, 201312 yr Author Delete all existing credentials. Are shares public? forgive my ignorance. You mean delete my Windows Credentials from control panel correct? I see when I click on one of my shares I have set up it says under "SMB Security Settings" Security: Public....I hope this is what you're referring to. Ill wait for confirmation on deleting my Windows Credentials...I dont know of any other credentials just want to be safe
November 2, 201312 yr Author i deleted the credential that had to do with my server and it still pops up but this times its empty not prefilled
November 3, 201312 yr Author i tried to leave it blank and it didnt work. then I tried log in info for my server. root then my password. didnt work
November 3, 201312 yr Root will never work. Root and by default only root is only allowed management access. Have you created a user and given that user share access? Or is the share configured as Public?
November 3, 201312 yr Author are you talking about creating a user in my unraid server? if so the answer is no. All my shares are set to public. I think this has more to do with Windows but i dont know enough about this credentials stuff to figure it out i attached a screen capture of the log in. maybe that will help spark some ideas...whoshouse is the name of my unraid server
November 4, 201312 yr Shares set to public should not be requesting login information. Make sure the share is set to public and reboot the server and the client.
November 5, 201312 yr Author where it says SMB Security Settings. Then it says security: public. is that how i tell that its a public share??
November 6, 201312 yr Yes that share is public. Are all of your disks included? If so, leave the box empty.
November 6, 201312 yr Author Yes they are all included. I didnt know I could leave blank to include them all, thanks...any other thoughts on the sign in?
November 7, 201312 yr Author hey thanks for the link. I skimmed through it and it was a little much for me to digest right now...id need to focus on reading it word for word haha. BUUUUTTTTT i just tried something randomly and I think it may have worked. I went to my Credential Manager in Windows and the bottom half of Windows Credentials is "Generic Credentials" and I creaded a new one. The Internet or network address: I put http://servername for the User name i put root and i put my password i created for root and now its not asking me for credential information...I hope this helps someone else out. Thanks for all your help!

Thanks for all your help! With the 5.0 version of unRAID, the user 'root' is no longer allowed to access shares (for security reasons) so although you are not being challenged it does not mean you will not have problems.
November 8, 201312 yr Author With the 5.0 version of unRAID, the user 'root' is no longer allowed to access shares (for security reasons) so although you are not being challenged it does not mean you will not have problems. I will keep that in mind for sure. but for now I dont want to rock the boat. If it comes back ill further follow the link that @dgaschk posted. Thanks again for your help!
November 9, 201312 yr Author the problem came back already!!! ill try to follow the other post! :o :'(
