[SOLVED] Unable to upgrade from RC10 to RC16/5.0 final

Featured Replies

Hi

I'm currently running 5.0RC10. I've tried upgrading to both 5.0RC16 and the new final 5.0. In both cases I've tried both a full reformat of my flash drive as well as just copying over the bz*, readme.txt and syslinux.cfg files.

In all cases, the boot sequence halts and I've never been able to boot up successfully. Going back to RC10 works fine every time.

I've attached a photo of the halted boot sequence - seems to be an issue with my AOC-SASLP-MV8 sas controller card (maybe).

What can I try next? I'd love to test each individual RC version to see exactly which version of the OS/Linux kernel introduces the issue on my system, but only the latest RC16 is available for download (is there anywhere I can grab the older versions?)

Even if it's a hardware issue unique to my system (I've read so many postings of people successfully upgrading to the latest 5.0 final), it would be good to narrow down exactly which hardware component is causing the problem.

Full system specs in my sig.

TIA.

Look for BIOS updates for the MB and firmware updates for the card.

UPDATE: removed HP SAS expander and used a combination of 2 x MV-SAS cards + Motherboard SATA ports instead, and all problems went away. Seems as though the HP card is faulty.

Am now running 5.02-RC1.
