sam_roberts30
I have just stuck a 3tb drive in my case and it is showing up as a IDE drive. I would have expected it to show as SDE but it is showing up as HDE. Is this normal? It is working fine and have the full capacity available. Just the letters seem to be wrong. Quote Link to comment

You have YOUR BIOS set to a "legacy" mode for the disk controller chipset connected to that disk. You want to set it to AHCI mode. Most BIOS set at least one or two ports to IDE or Legacy mode since Windwos XP and prior have no SATA drivers and would not be able to boot otherwise from a disk. You just need to find the setting in the BIOS for those ports and change it. (often there are two ACHI settings, one for each chipset involved) unRAID will then show the disk as sdX rather than hdX. (and it will perform better) There is no effect on the data, so you can change it at any time. Joe L. Quote Link to comment
