If I virtualize unRaid, and I serve datastores over NFS, that gets a bit recursive, right? Anyone ever had performance issues? I'm starting to consider virtualizing unRaid and passing all of the hard drives directly. Just boot esxi from usb, and boot unraid from passed usb. I'd be able to use an SSD cache drive, since vmxnet3 can run at 10gbps. Which means all internal nfs traffic would just be stupid fast. Am I missing something here? I'm in the process of building a low-powered bare-metal unRaid box right now, but it seems like upgrading the system in the future for ESXi would be a good upgrade path.
