What Split level should i be using???....

Featured Replies

Hey guys, im new to Unraid, and would like to confirm which Split level i should use....

I have 3 Disks at this stage (3 x 500gb, 1 used for Parity)...here's my current folder structure

\\Sharename\Videos\Anime\Naruto\n1.mpg,n2.mpg,n2.sub

\\Sharename\Videos\Series\Prison Break\s01e01.mpg

\\\Sharename\Videos\Hi-Def\Hellboy\hellboy.m2ts

\\Sharename\Videos\Movies\Mortal Kombat\MK1.mpg

\\\Sharename\Videos\Training\Windows 2k3\2k3 essentials.mpg

.....OK, so in the example above for \Anime\Naruto......I want any files/folders AFTER the "Naruto" Folder on the Same disk (in this case "n1.mpg,n2.mpg,n2.sub" )....and not spanned.....but anything before the "Naruto" Folder can be on any of the disks.....Does that sort of make sense?

I think i should be using Split Level 1?...just need to make sure though.....

Please advise if i should change my folder structure in any way to make it more convenient...

Thanks to all in reply:)

Could you please give me some examples of how split levels would work in the example given above?

Im still trying to get my head around all of this....

Thanks

With your Naruto folder - I would set to level 2 on this and it will stay in one disk and not spun. The rest would be level 3.

(someone please correct me if I am wrong - thanks)

Would this mean i'd have to create several Shares for each Directory i want Split etc....???....or should i make it more simple?

You would understand more about split level with this diagram.

Please check my attachments.....here's my dilemma....

The anime folder is structured - sharename\anime\title\seasons\files (\\Videos\anime\naruto\season1\naruto1.mpg), so has an extra folder to take into account...i would like any titles after the "Season1" folder to be spanned, as they are just episodes for the season (ie s01e01,s01e02 etc...), and i dont mind the spin up for hdd between eps.

...though the Movies folder is structured - sharename\movies\title\files (\\Videos\Movies\Men In Black\men in black.avi)....Same goes here...i dont mind have the titles after the "Men in Black" folder on any of my disks....as i dont rip dvd's and all my titles are single, or 2 part files (i dont mind 1 part being on another hdd)

Hope this clears things up:)

Thanks!

Since the folder depth is different, would it be possible for you to use 2 different top level Video shares, something like Videos - Movies and Videos - anime?  That way, you could apply a different split level setting to each.
