November 16, 201312 yr Author Downloaded and created a bootable USB with out any problems. Decided to try to install this on microserver first on a spare USB I had. I went through the set up pointing it towards the second USB and the Install appeared to run fine, got to the end of the install process and rebooted, removed the install USB and waited to see if it would boot off the second USB. It didn't, tried again with a few different USB and checked to be sure it was booting off correct one, it was, but no joy. In the end I thought what the hell I'll install it to the 1 TB I had just pre-cleared with the microserver. The thing booted straight up and then pointed the browser on main machine at microserver and downloaded and installed xencenter, pointed this at the microserver and it connected fine. Next task is to see if I can get a free version of unraid up and running in VM on it :-)
November 16, 201312 yr Keep in mind that what you arr testing is not if , enserver works, but if it works on specific hardware. So you will need to set it up on your target hardware. If microserver is your target to run the vm enviroment, great. Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk
November 16, 201312 yr Author Yeah understand that wanted to basically learn how to set it up, if i can do it on the microserver my hope is ill take that over to main server. Regarding pass through, I think I set up the pass through of the usb ans sata controllers correctly, how do I know if I have passed the ubs correctly as when I look in the unRAID interface at the Flash Device Settings it shows: Flash Vendor: Flash Product: Flash GUID: No flash (-2) Registered to: Upgrade to Plus or go Pro lspci | more [root@xenserver-pdvxuass ~]# lspci | more 00:00.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS880 Host Bridge 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 9602 00:06.0 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 PCI to PCI bridge (PCIE port 2) 00:11.0 SATA controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 SATA Controller [AHCI mode] (rev 40) 00:12.0 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB OHCI0 Controller 00:12.2 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB EHCI Controller 00:13.0 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB OHCI0 Controller 00:13.2 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB EHCI Controller 00:14.0 SMBus: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SBx00 SMBus Controller (rev 42) 00:14.1 IDE interface: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 IDE Controller (rev 40) 00:14.3 ISA bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 LPC host controller (rev 40) 00:14.4 PCI bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SBx00 PCI to PCI Bridge (rev 40) 00:16.0 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB OHCI0 Controller 00:16.2 USB controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI SB7x0/SB8x0/SB9x0 USB EHCI Controller 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 10h Processor HyperTransport Configuration 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 10h Processor Address Map 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 10h Processor DRAM Controller 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 10h Processor Miscellaneous Control 00:18.4 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] Family 10h Processor Link Control 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4225/4250] 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5723 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 10) nano /boot/extlinux.conf label xe # XenServer kernel mboot.c32 append /boot/xen.gz mem=1024G dom0_max_vcpus=2 dom0_mem=752M,max:752M watchdog_timeout=300 lowmem_emergency_pool=1M crashkernel=64M@32M cpuid_mask_xsave_eax=0 console=vga vga=mode-0x0311 --- /boot/vmlinuz-2.6-xen root=LABEL=root-jrmpb$$-jrmpblol ro xencons=hvc console=hvc0 console=tty0 quiet vga=785 splash pciback.hide=(00:11.0)(00:12.0)(00:12.2)(00:13.0)(00:13.2)(00:16.0)(00:16:2) --- /boot/initrd-2.6-xen.img looks like I may do done it wrong maybe?? November 16, 201312 yr Well the main indicator you passed in the usb correctly if unraid boots and run the webgui. The vm image you use to create the vm will not start gui. It does not have the all neede files and configs. So if your vm starts and you can get to the main gui page you have done right. The main indicator you have passed your disk contorller correctly is the fact that all disks attached to it is recognized by unraid and are available to be asigned to array. November 17, 201312 yr I am not sure what the errors are. But can you get to the main web page? If yes , and you can see the flash drive on the main page, you should be ok. It could be that your flash stick simply does not have the info thus it might not be good for unraid license use. You can still use it for free setup, but when you move past 2 disks you might need a different stick. Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk

November 27, 201312 yr Just a quick thought Traid has several licensing styles and most don't show life time updates and it does restrict how many clients. I am sorry one of the biggest selling points to my customers for Unraid servers is the licensing is easy fair and with few limits. No per client fee like with Microsoft servers. No too many clients connection drop like non server Microsoft. Unlimited updates. Great forum. No hidden fees. This is the biggest best of all reason my clients like Unraid no surprises! Development is slow but usually to make sure we don't get something that can damage or curupt or delete data. Based on my reading of Traid it just dose not give me the idea that they care they seem to be out to make a quick buck. Just my perception I could be wrong. Thornwood
November 27, 201312 yr Author After reading and watching there forum for a few weeks now, I beginning to agree. The easy licencing and excellent community are also what brought me to unRAID and one if the reasons I love it. I'll be sticking with unRAID as it just works great as a NAS and from what I been tracking numbers on the forum notifications could be making an appearance at some point, well there's talk. The only thing that I will be changing about my set up will be I'll be running unRAID through xenserver in new year once I get a new board and chip. One VM for unRAID and another for my plugins and services. All will be excellent then. Provided I can actually get it running low.
