November 17, 201312 yr I have suddenly started getting single figure read speeds from my array. It normally reads between 70-100MB/s, write speeds are still fine at 45-50MB/s. It started last weekend when i was trying to get mysql working, i uninstalled mysql and read speeds returned to normal but its started again this morning. I am a complete novice when it comes to Linux so dont have a clue where to start to try and diagnose this problem syslog-2013-11-17.txt
November 17, 201312 yr Are you coping 3 things at once? If so I would expect those speeds. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
November 17, 201312 yr Author Sorry should have said the first image is writing to the array, image 2 & 3 are reading from array all done seperatly

November 18, 201312 yr Do all of the disks have slow read performance? Post SMART reports for slow disks.
November 18, 201312 yr Author Ive checked reading from all disks and they are all having the same slow read speed. smartcache.txt smartdisk1.txt smartdisk2.txt smartdisk3.txt

November 18, 201312 yr Ive checked reading from all disks and they are all having the same slow read speed. Are the symptoms the same on all the client machines, or just the PC in your original post?
November 19, 201312 yr Author Ive checked reading from all disks and they are all having the same slow read speed. Are the symptoms the same on all the client machines, or just the PC in your original post? Ive only got the original pc connected through the gigabit switch, my laptop is connected via 10/100 nic and it gets 10MB/s write speeds and 2-3MB/s read speeds Check for MB BIOS and SATA card firmware updates. Check for MB BIOS and SATA card firmware updates. Trying to understand how you guys are reading the syslog. What did you read in the syslog to come to the conclusion that the sata card needs a update or the MB Bios? Do you mean check the Bios settings because something changed or a Bios Update? If danneh problem only started after his sql install then wouldn't this issue be software or network related? also saw this in the syslog. Would this cause any problems..? FAT-fs (sdb1): Volume was not properly unmounted. Some data may be corrupt. Please run fsck. The server has been running perfectly for nearly 3 months without any change so not sure why firmware would help? I dont understand that FAT-fs message there isnt a SDB1 disk in the array?
November 19, 201312 yr I dont understand that FAT-fs message there isnt a SDB1 disk in the array? That is probably your USB stick that you are booting from. That is in FAT format.

November 19, 201312 yr Author How do i run fsck? will running the fsck clear that message from the syslog? I had to power down server by holding down the power button a few weeks ago when i couldnt connect but everytime since i have been stopping the array and then shutting down from the unraid menu.

Put the flash in a PC or Mac and run check disk.
November 20, 201312 yr Author i have run check disk on the flash disk now and the error message has cleared from the log but read speeds are still single figures
November 20, 201312 yr Have you tried pulling the power to the hub / switch the server is connected to? Had similar issues a while back and resetting the hub / switch saw a return to full speed but it slow right down after a day or so. Replaced it and all is good and at full speed again. November 20, 201312 yr Replace the Ethernet cable between your UnRAID server and the router. If one of the pairs has developed an issue, this will cause strange slowdowns -- I've seen this before where transfers in one direction were fine (e.g. your writes), but the other direction was very poor. These symptoms can indicate a cable issue; a bad port on your switch (or router); or some combination of both. From what you've outlined, I'd try a different cable first.
November 20, 201312 yr Author Ive rebooted the switch and changed which ports im using and speed is now back up to normal Thanks for the help everyone
