November 18, 201312 yr Greetings all, I am planning to build a new unRAID server (similar to eskrow's build) in the next month to replace the aging 6TB RAID5 in my 2008-built server. I would like to keep things as low power and space minimal as possible, but have a few questions. One is about virtualization. Originally I was looking at the plugin options that unRAID provides, but then noticed that virtualization inside of a host OS is possible. Should I be aware of any overhead in virtualizing rather than using the plugins? It seems like this may affect spindown performance, but I am not sure.
November 18, 201312 yr As long as the controllers are passed through to UnRAID, the spin-down controlled by UnRAID will still happen with no problem.
