Seasonic 520W bronze S12II-520 for how many HDs?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I purchased the CM Storm Trooper case for my Xeon 1245V3 Server build. The case will have one Blu-Ray drive, 2 SSDs and 2 conventional Hard Drives to start. The maximum the case can support is 13 hard drives, will the PSU stretch that far?

I know boot is the most power hungry, I'd assume if I had dedicated raid cards I could boot them off cycle? Or should I be looking at a minimum of 650w psu?

Thanks in advance

See here for reference.

Assuming that, at a later stage, your build will consist of mainly "green" drives you will be fine with 40A for 13 drives.

Even with dedicated RAID controllers you will have everything spinning at start-up.

The controllers will do the staggered spin-up only if they're already up and running.
