November 25, 201312 yr I am currently running unRIAD with 8 GB of RAM. I have Plex and after a reboot will all plugins started my memory usage is at 1 GB. If I then start to transcode multiple files with Plex, the memory jumps to 7.5 GB. When I stop the transcode it will gradually go down to 6 GB and stay there. My questions: 1. Why does the memory not drop back to 2-3 GB after Plex is finished transcoding? 2. Does unRAID report memory incorrectly once it jumps past 4 GB because it is a 32 - bit OS?
November 25, 201312 yr Any disk data that is read, or written, is also stored in the buffer cache until the need for memory requires flushing the oldest data. The caches can be cleared with a command to drop them. http://www.linuxinsight.com/proc_sys_vm_drop_caches.html
