User Share not expanding into new Hard-Drives

Featured Replies

Edit: posted newer syslog file that no longer has duplicate problem robj mentions in second post because I fixed it

Hey guys,

I recently expanded my unRAID Server, Version: 4.3.3,  with 2 more Western Digital 1 TB drives (identical to my first three). Everything went according to plan as far as getting unRAID to see and correctly add the drives to my array. The problem that I am running into now is that unRAID is not expanding my User Share, InfiniteChest, into these newly added drives. Under the settings for this User Share before adding the new drives I had

Share name: InfiniteChest

Comments:

Allocation method: High-Water

Split level: 2

Included disk(s): disk1, disk2

Excluded disk(s):

Use cache disk: Yes

Export mode: Export read/write

After adding the two new drives I changed 'Included disk(s):' to 'disk1, disk2, disk3, disk4'

Since I am out of space on my first two disks it was clear that the User Share hadn't expanded when I tried to add more files to 'InfiniteChest' and I was informed that there wasn't enough space to add my new files. ??? So I poked around the manual and found that I was doing things correctly but if I left 'Included disk(s):' blank that it would use all of the disks in the array for that User Share. I want to use all of the disks in my array anyways so I tried that as well. Still didn't work  ??? I made sure to reboot after each change just to be safe but it didn't make a difference. I am able to write directly to my new disks but not through my User Share. I'm stumped and need some help. For all intents and purposes my unRAID server is running correctly except my User Shares.

Thanks for the help,

Will

Something is definitely wrong with your User Share system, but I don't know what.  What I am seeing in your syslog is a repeating series of duplicate media files on Disk 1 (!), which should not be possible.  Just 30 seconds after it began setting up the User Shares, it reported the same 3 movies as duplicates, and then continued to report the exact same 3 files (identical path and names), all on the same path of /mnt/disk1/InfiniteChest/Movies/Movies From J/.  Just over an hour later, it began repeatedly reporting a group of 5 movies as duplicates, again all on Disk 1, but a different folder.

Obviously, the first of anything can't be a duplicate, so duplicates have to start with files on Disk 2 with exactly the same name and path.  Perhaps Joe or another Linux expert can determine if there is some kind of recursive loop here.  Have you set up any symlinks, or other file links?

You might try a reiserfsck on Disk 1, to rule out file system corruption.  See the Check Disk Filesystems wiki page.

I don't know what the User Share file limits are, but with a gig of RAM, I wouldn't think you are close to them.  Just how many files and folders do you think you have on this server?

If you have UnMENU installed, you should try the Dupe Files tool, to determine what duplicates you really have, if any.

Robj,

Thanks for you input on the matter. I did some poking around about the duplicate issue in my syslog file. It seems that for some reason some of the files that i most recently tried to transfer didn't clear themselves out of the cache drive but did transfer to disk1. I deleted the files from both places and I no longer have the problems in my syslog file. I transfered some other files after deleting these rogues and the issue seems to have resolved itself. The files that were causing problems were the ones that I was trying to transfer when I discovered that my USER SHARE hadn't expanded into my newly installed drives. Check out the new syslog that I have attached.

As for your question about the number files I have on the server the results are as follows:

Files: 28,950

Folders: 3,090

Size: 1.83 TB

(I have a lot of music)

I haven't tried checking out if I have file system corruption yet but I will report back shortly.

Thanks for your time,

Will

Ran the check for file corruption and I came back with a clean bill of health, 0 errors. What now guys?

Did you create the infiniteCHEST directory on the new drives?

Sadly, I am not that smart :-[. For some reason I thought that unRAID would create the folder for me. I have created the 'InfiniteChest' folder on the new drives and unRAID is in fact writing to them now. Thanks for your help everybody.

I spoke to soon. I am still having problems. It seems that if I don't use my cache disk then unRAID will write for the User Share into the new drives. However, when unRAID transfers files from the Cache disk it will only try and write onto the old drives. So I am back to square one. ???

Guys I really need some help on this it is driving me batty. I have no idea what to do. The drives are part of the User Share now but the Cache disk continues to try and write the disks that are FULL and not the disks that have 2TB of free space. Please help.

Thank you for your time,

Will

Okay I upgraded to 4.4 final and it seems to be working now.

did unraid copy over the files to the new dir on it's own or did you still have to manually create the dir on the disks themselves?

I'm running into a similar problem myself
