Virtualbox and unraid both die when using bridged networking -syslog attached

Featured Replies

I just upgraded to unraid 5.03....talk about fun.  I finally got almost everything working.  Since installing virtualbox, if I set the VM to Briged Networking so I can get an IP from my router, I lose connection to Unraid and Virtualbox

Here is the syslog.  This worked in 4.7

I'm using unRAID 5.0.0 and VirtualBox 4.3.2 with bridged networking without a problem on my N54L.  I would first try to downgrade to 5.0 unRAID and VirtualBox 4.3.2 first.  If it works then likely something in the VirtualBox setup for 5.0.3 is bad and will need to be fixed for it to work.  If it doesn't then maybe someone else more knowledgeable will be able to figure it out for you.

Bob,

5.0 worked without a problem!  Thanks so much for the suggestion.

Does choosing bridged instead of NAT allow the VM to get an ip from the router?

Yes.  My VMs get their IP from my router.  I believe (but don't know because I've never used NAT intentionally) that NAT mode causes VBOX to become a DHCP server for the VMs.  I have always had problems access other computers on my network from a VM when using NAT mode on a Windows host OS.  So I switched to bridged mode.  When I installed VBOX on unRAID I carried over the same policy and always setup bridged mode for the network adapters.

Thanks Bob. I'll set mine to bridged and maybe that will help me get UltraVNC working on the VM.
