December 4, 201312 yr Hi folks have just built a server using supermicro X9SCM-F-O. I am getting a 4 beeps then 2 error. Can anyone tell me what this represents. I have the correct memory and have only attached one hard drive from my old xp system to check it (no unraid yet). Can't get to bios or anything???? Anyone help.
December 4, 201312 yr Author Quick amend. Sorry but it's actually 6 beeps. Must have been imagining a break.
December 4, 201312 yr First guess is wrong or bad memory. Have you tried it with just one stick? 5 short beeps + 1 long beep is a memory error.
December 4, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the reply StevenD, The meory is correct for the board as per kingston (Ecc Unbuffered 1333 DIMM). I did however have it in the wrong slots (rookie mistake). I have since put it in the correct order and slots 2A,2B (2X2gig chips). I still get the 6 beeps. Do I have to clear the CMOS or something to reset it. I have never come across this before? Any help would be appreciated.
December 4, 201312 yr If you are certain you have the correct RAM, I would try one DIMM at a time. I'm assuming your board has BIOS v2.0?
December 4, 201312 yr Author I checked the memory that was sent - it should have been KVR1333D3S8E9SK2/4G , however it was out of stock and replaced with Arch Memory AM2GB1333EC-r1x2-G . Anyone got any info on these? I can't dig any up but I've a funny feeling they are not unbuffered as required.
December 4, 201312 yr Author If you are certain you have the correct RAM, I would try one DIMM at a time. I'm assuming your board has BIOS v2.0? No idea about the bios yet as I can't get to that till I get beyond the memory problem. I'm hoping it's fine as I just got the board and forum members say it should be fine in the later boards. This may need re-flashed also though....... you never know...unfortunately.
December 4, 201312 yr It should be fine as 2.0 has been shipping for almost a year. However, you never know when they find an old board on the shelf. Im pretty sure mine said the BIOS version on the box.
December 4, 201312 yr Author What is the exact model of RAM are you running? Arch Memory AM2GB1333EC-r1x2-G I can't get any info on them.
December 4, 201312 yr According to the specs, those should work. However, SuperMicro tests their boards with specific RAM, so that is all I will buy. Server boards can be more picky about RAM than desktops. I'm running four Hynix HMT41GU7MFR8C-PB DIMMs.
December 4, 201312 yr Author Guess I'll have to buy some more ram and see if that works. Any idea Which would show an error first Bios or Memory? I still don't know if it's V1 or V2??? Problems, Problems...
