December 14, 201312 yr I am wanting to share my PMS server with a family member at a remote location. I have used a laptop at the offsite house and Plex plays any 1080p movie just fine. The offsite location does not have a HTPC hooked up to the TV but I remembered that a lot of people here use a Roku 3 and Plex. Any suggestions on if using a Roku 3 would be a good idea if it is offsite? Or would it just be best to get a HTPC? Also, are there any audio or video limitations with the Roku 3?

The Roku would certainly be the cheapest and easiest solution. I have a number of family members who stream offsite from my Plex and they all use Rokus. I can't really think of any limitations, considering the Roku3 can do 1080p and 5.1 or 7.1 passthrough over HDMI.
December 14, 201312 yr Seconded for the roku as an easy, capable and cheap device. Assuming your upload speed where your PMS is located is sufficient and the same for your download speed at the offsite location then you will be good to go
December 14, 201312 yr My brother uses a Roku to access my library on pretty atrocious internet at 480p without too many problems.
