December 16, 201312 yr Update: Not solved =( Still only sees 8GB of RAM, and my BIOS screen is all messed up. Just started cycle booting again. Hello everyone! I am having a really weird issue and I was hoping someone else had some advice to try. Basically my computer was working fine til I upgraded the BIOS to clear up a RAM issue, now the card causes my unRAID box to crash. I do not have an option to downgrade back to the old BIOS(I had v3, on the gigabyte page they only have v4, v5, v6, and I have tried them all). I am considering RMAing the mobo, but if I am just missing something I would appreciate some help =) I have the following build: Motherboard: GA-H61MA-D3V PSU: Corsair CX430M CPU: Intel i3-3220 Sandy Bridge HDDs: 1 WD Black(unused), 1 WD Red 3TB(Parity), 3 WD Red 3TB(Data) CPU Cooler: Water Cooling - Zalman LQ-320 RAM: 8GB GSkill Sniper So today what I endeavored to do was upgrade this rig with the following: - 16GB Crucial Ballistix - IBM M1115(same as M1015) - Switch to ESXi from just unRAID And here is what happened: - First I added the RAM and the card at the same time. The server would not boot at all, and I noticed if I took out a stick of RAM(only 2 8GB sticks) it would boot. So I kept the stick out and went on with it, figured I would deal with it later. - Next I cleared the raid card, and crossflashed it to 2118IT.bin the newest version off of the LSI webpage(17 I believe). - That went swimmingly. - I fired up my unRAID and it worked! My array started up, so did all of my plugins. - Next I started to fiddle with the RAM issue. When I went to my BIOS all of my RAM settings were error values. So I cleared my CMOS and updated BIOS to the newest version. - Now my server sees 16GB of RAM =) Except it won't POST again. This time removing a stick of RAM doesn't help it. The only thing that helps it is removing the M1115 card. So if I do that it boots fine but I have no card, and if I plug it back in weird things happen. Weird Things Happen: - With my M1115 card plugged in, my Motherboard will wirr to life, fans spinning up, etc. for about 5 seconds then it will cut power. It will do this 1-5 times, then it will post. After it posts I get the LSI screen where the card is initializing, then I get a blue screen that says GIGABYTE UEFI BIOS on top and it shuts off after a few seconds. - If I wait, and CTRL+C to get into the card config, I can. So, it is weird. I have another PC(My main) that has a TX750 PSU in it I was going to give a go to see if it were a PSU issue. I also removed ALL HDDs from the PSU to try and give it more juice. I have the M1115 in my main PC now, and it works fine. I re-flashed it and it is still giving me woes when I go back to my unRAID server.
December 16, 201312 yr Author I dont know why I haven't tried this yet, but I am going to let a Memtest run overnight, see what happens. Maybe it was just bad ram I got
April 7, 201412 yr Did you try to reset the BIOS by enabling the clear BIOS jumper? Something I do after every firmware update then go into the new BIOS and reset the options. -Kat
