Help Red Dot by my drive

Featured Replies

I have been using unraid for several years with no problems. Well last night I got a red dot beside one of my drives.  Can anyone help me determine what is going on? Thanks.  I have attached the smart drive log from that drive.  Also I have noticed my parity drive is getting errors now. Not on the parity but just on the drive.  Thanks in advance.

Anyone?  I was hoping someone could help before I just buy another drive. Thanks!

That smart report looks good so I wouldn't suspect that the drive itself is the problem.  At this point I would swap out the SATA cable for that drive or at least reseat the existing one to see if that makes a difference.

I'm guessing that you will also have to do additional steps to get unraid to use (or trust) the drive again. Someone with more experience than I will have to guide you for that...

The drive is not necessarily bad. It's best to post your syslog and it might show there was a write failure to the drive. When something like that happens unRAID will disable the drive. Sometimes this is just caused by connection problems either SATA or power.

The best course of action if you have a Pre-Cleared spare on hand is to go through the procedure of swapping out the red dot drive (check the wiki), get the new drive rebuilt from parity info and then do a non-correcting parity check. Keep the old drive on hand in case something happens to rebuild. Once you're in the clear this "failed" dive can be evaluated and possibly Pre-Cleared again. I'd suggest holding off adding content until the array is stable again....but that's just me.

Sorry I didn't look at your SMART report yet.
