page3
Unraid 5.0.4. HP Microserver. Just noticed that one of my drives is in disabled status: DISK_DSBL /dev/md2 /mnt/disk2 /dev/sdb ST1500DL003-9VT16L_5YD9GJDV * 16636073 174714 1.50T 474.69G 32% 1.03T If I SSH in to Tower, I can navigate to /mnt/disk2 and read the files fine. My syslog gives errors, starting December 15 - log attached. Is anyone able to help me determine what's going on, and what my next step should be? Thanks! itimpi
There are lots of errors being reported for the drive. It looks as though disk2 has dropped offline and is being emulated by unRAID using the other drives plus parity. The problem could be something simple like a bad power or SATA cable connection in which case powering off the server, reseating the cables and powering back up might fix the problem. Alternatively the drive itself could be failing. A SMART report using smartctl might give an indication of which oh these is the case. Quote Link to comment
page3
Thanks for the reply. Check physical drives and connections. It is an HP Microserver so drives are slotted in to rear board, if that makes sense. Nothing RED in the syslog so far after reboot, but drive still disabled. mr-hexen
run a short smart test post results, then run a long smart test, post those results. pending something coming back from those test the drive smart report looks ok. the error reported seems to have been {timeout}. if all tests come back ok i'd first try rebuilding the drive onto itself. I have checked drives and cables again, just to be sure. As it is a HP Microserver there are no individual cables to each drive, just a backplane to check that was seated ok. I'm also thinking of getting another drive, just in case as I can use it elsewhere if this one turns out to be OK. A faulty server is far more of a problem! Quote Link to comment

mr-hexen
drive looks fine. its a little old at 37,000 powered on hours but sectors all look clear to me. I'd stop the array, unassign it from the array, start, stop, re-assign it and let unraid rebuild it and see what happens. Quote Link to comment
page3
drive looks fine. its a little old at 37,000 powered on hours but sectors all look clear to me. I'd stop the array, unassign it from the array, start, stop, re-assign it and let unraid rebuild it and see what happens. Thanks. 37,000 hours is definitely odd as the drive was installed October 15, 2012, and I make 37,000 hours around 4 years 24x7! It was a replacement for a DOA drive that wouldn't even pass preclear. I'll try your suggestion, and see what happens. I also have a new drive on order, just in case. Quote Link to comment
page3
I'd stop the array, unassign it from the array, start, stop, re-assign it and let unraid rebuild it and see what happens. This has now completed successfully. No errors on logs at all. I am now running a parity check. Obviously I'm glad if this all works, except that uneasy feeling of not knowing what went wrong, or if 'something' is failing. I'll report back when the parity check ends. Quote Link to comment
page3
Another update: parity completed fine. I intend to run for a few days to see if it reoccurs, if not then I was planning on replacing the parity with a larger drive (wd red) and using the old parity to replace the data drive that had the hiccup. I'll mark as resolved in a few days, unless anyone has any final comments. As always, this forum is amazing and hugely elevates unraid above some of its peers. Quote Link to comment
page3
Array still running fine, so going to mark this as solved, even though I never did get to the bottom of what happened. Quote Link to comment
