January 1, 201412 yr Twice in the last 24 hours, I'd suddenly lose access to the Unraid server. It would disappear from the network and whatever transfer that was taking place at the time would fail. I'd have to reboot the server, after which it would do a parity check, with no errors found. The attached syslog is from after the most recent reboot. Any ideas on how to diagnose this? syslog-2014-01-01.txt
January 1, 201412 yr On the next failure, DO NOT reboot the system. Use telnet to get a copy of the system log at that time. See SYSTEM LOG in my sig.
January 1, 201412 yr Author What if the server could not be reached by a telnet connection, can I just unplug the USB key to get the syslog?
January 1, 201412 yr If telnet will not respond, you will need to use the local console to copy the syslog to the USB key. The syslog is kept in RAM, because constant writes to the USB key will wear it out quicker. There are some user maintained utilities that will write the syslog to the key during a proper shutdown, but if the power to the server is cut, there is no way to retrieve the syslog after the fact.
