January 7, 200917 yr While in the process of RMAing my drive, i noticed at the bottom of my WD7500AAKS drive is a little arrow pointing to a tiny hole that says "BREATHER PORT DO NOT OBSTRUCT". Then looking at my tray, it covers the entire bottom, and thus covering the hole....what affect does this have on drive temp? This is my bay: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817995001 This is the picture of the tray on their website, but my trays look different: http://www.athenapower.us/web_backplane_zoom/bp_satatryb.html. Mine has big cutouts at the end of the tray at the back, but the hole on the hdd ends up being up in the front, where there is no cutout.
January 7, 200917 yr Unless you SEAL the berather port, there should be no problem. As the drive spins inside the case, the friction and the electronics heat o the air... heated air expands... and needs to escape. When it cools, the reverse happens. The breather port is a heavily filtered hole to allow that small amount of expansion and contraction of the inside air.
