[SOLVED] 2 failed drives (1 data and parity)

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have a small problem.

I'm using unraid v 5.0 and had a DATA drive fail on me. I replaced the failed data drive, but during the process of getting the data drive active my PARITY drive failed on me to.

I know i now lost the data on the failed DATA drive, but i know i can get this data back, will take some time though, so that is not the problem now.

I have replaced the parity drive too, but don't know how to get the array up and running again.

In the gui i see a red ball on the parity drive and a blue ball on the new data drive.

I don't know how to proceed to get my array running again.

All help is appreciated.

Rob.

The easiest way is just do a "New Config", so the system isn't trying to find your missing/failed drives.    Just go to the Utils tab and click on New Config.    Be CERTAIN that you assign the correct drive as parity (otherwise you'll trash one of your data drives).

The safest way to do it is to assign only your data drives (no parity) ... then Start the array and confirm all is good;  then Stop the array and assign your new parity drive ... and when you start the array again it will do the initial parity sync.

After the parity sync is done, run a parity check to confirm all went well.

Thx for the quick reply.

This will not delete the data on the remaining good data drives?

Rob.

No, it doesn't do anything to the data.  The only way it would do that is if you incorrectly assigned one of the data drives as the new parity drive ... which is why I noted you need to be CERTAIN you assign the correct drive as parity, and in fact suggested you do a config without a parity drive first, to confirm you have everything assigned correctly.
