January 9, 201412 yr For some files I would rsync them from the root filesystem to a storage area after install and modification. Upon reboot I had the go script rsync the files back from the storage area to the ram root filesystem.

Imagine If you explained that to anyone else (IT Person) other than unRAID folks here... They would think you have lost your mind. The thought of using "duct tape" like that on an unRAID Server never crossed my mind before. I read it and started laughing because 1. It works. 2. It's a very crafty way of dealing with the ram root filesystem.
