WD Red, or Seagate NAS drives?

Featured Replies

Getting an N54L at some point this week, then it's just a matter of supplying the drives.

I was thinking of either Reds or Seagates, though I suppose I could go half of each too...Does that seem to be a decent choice?

Yes, either is a good choice.

I wouldn't mix them, however => just pick the one you want to use and go with it.

I've used both and they're both excellent.  The Seagate NAS units run slightly faster than the WD Reds, but both have sustained data rates well above the transfer rate of a Gb network, so the slight speed difference doesn't matter.

Both have been VERY reliable.

FYI, if I was going to build a new array in the near future, I'd wait a few weeks and see if WD releases the 5TB Reds that were originally due last month.
