3TB drive with errors

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Wanted to run something by folks.  Running 5.0-rc16c here.  Had a couple Seagate 3TB drives in the array a couple months back that were showing errors (not sure of the count, they were double digit).  I pulled them from the array at the time because I thought it definitely meant I had a problem with the disks.  Since then I've read that it could just be an indication of re-allocated sectors potentially.

I ran one of the drives through 3 preclears and have posted the results.  They seem to indicate the drive is fine.  I've also attached the preclear_start reports (which basically looks like a SMART report) where I think it shows 4 instances of errors.

Basically does this drive look like something I can trust reliably, or what else do I need to do/provide to help lead to a conclusion?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

The drive looks ok.  Those errors were also reported as ATA errors at the bottom of your SMARTCTL report.

I would watch the drive and make sure these "uncorrect"able errors don't increase but otherwise the drive looks good.  If you are more paranoid like me you could use it for off line backups only.

Thanks!  I'll give it a go and see if the errors increment.
