January 8, 200917 yr here's my situation: I have a 8 Disk Array made up of various drives (UnRaid ver 4.3) I have a few of the dreaded seagate 7200.11 drives and thanks to the MyMain plugin I can see that one of them appears to be failing. I got nervous about this since that particular drive contains most of my important data so I went out and bought a WD Black 1TB drive and added it to my array. I copied the contents of the failing disk to the new Disk. Now I want to RMA the bad drive so I have to remove it from my array. Can someone please verify the steps I am about to take. 1. Stop Array 2. power down 3. Remove bad drive 4. Boot 5. Hit Restore Button Is it correct that this will just rebuild parity? Since I have the contents of the failed disk copied to the new drive I should be ok right. Any advice would be appreciated. Kent
January 8, 200917 yr Your steps look good but you are missing one. You should stop the array, then Go to the Devices Page and un-assign the drive you will be removing. Then power down and remove the drive. Then, the "Restore" button will need the "checkbox" below it checked to enable it, but other than that, it is exactly what you need to do to remove a drive from the array when you do not intend to replace it immediately.
January 16, 200917 yr Author Thanks Joe, I removed the drive and rebuilt parity and all is well. Kent
January 17, 200917 yr This would be a good time to run the pre_clear script on that removed drive, to wipe your important data off it before sending it away.
