Disk errors on another drive during rebuild

Featured Replies

I replaced a disk that got 1 error, and during rebuild another drive got a insane amount of errors. But it still seems like the rebuild is in progress. The current position keeps going up. What to do?

Disk 18 is having read errors which may corrupt the rebuild of disk 3. Do you still have the original disk 3?

Yes, i still have it.

Post a SMART report for the original disk 3/

  • Author

This is a smart report for disk 18. http://pastebin.com/UrPm776a. I remember that i removed the sidedoor, so i shut down the server. Checked all the cables twice. And now disk 8 and disk 3 reports as unformatted. (this is replacement disk3. not the original one.)

If the original disk3  is in decent shape it can be used to restore disk 18. Otherwise both disks will need to be recovered using a recovery tool, e.g. systemRescueCD.

Can this be done while disk 8 shows as unformated? Disk 18 is up and running now, im copying of content with teracopy to my desktop. Since the smart rapport for disk 18 was ok, and the cable seemed kinda loose i assume that was the reason. Just be clear this is how the webui looks now.

DO NOT choose to format any disks unless you no longer desire the contents of those disks. Check for additional loose cables. Be careful not to loosen additional cables when checking.

Since there wasnt any essential info on the disks i just wiped it by running the preclear script. Both disks passed. When add them, it still says unformatted, when i press format. Nothing really happens. There seems to a problem with disk 3. Any advice?

This is cause by an incompatible add-on. Start up in safe-mode and/or see my sig.

I deleted all the addons, it still dont work. Any tips?

Added the syslog as requested. Before you replied i tried to manually format disk 3.

SNAP and cache_directories are still loading at startup.

At this point in debugging, do you need SNAP for something?

I also find that cache directories likes to take over after bootup as it loads all the directory data into RAM.

My GUI is unresponsive until that's done.

Try starting up in Safe-Mode.

That can be right, i have deleted the folders and the go file is changed. I must have posted the wrong syslog. I double checked and pressed format again.

The SMART reports look fine. Add-ons are still loading. Backup the flash drive then format and reinstall the stock system. DO NOT add any add-ons or GUI modifications until the system is stable.

Where in the logs can you see that the addons are loaded? i cant seems to find it. I dont understand why since the folder is deleted and gofile changed. Ill format the usb drive when the kids are a sleep. Thanks

You are correct. The last log does not show any add-ons loading. Make a clean install of the latest version.

I didn't add the missing disks after the clean install of 5.0. I'm rebuilding parity just to be safe. I'll try and add one and one disk after it's finished.

I'm with dgaschk...I could swear the log showed that plugin that shuts down after UPS failures,

as well as another (was it for sleep?)...but I don't see either of them in the latest syslogs.  :o

Never mindz.
