A Good Replacement for Windows Home Server.

I know there are a few people here who use WHS either on baremetal or virtualized -- primarily for the awesome backup it provides.  And I'm sure there are a few disappointed faces in that product reaching End of Life.  I just wanted to mention that Windows Server 2012 R2 has that awesome functionality in it.  One of the roles that can be installed on 2012 R2 is "Windows Server Essentials Experience" which has a bunch of stuff in it -- including the awesome backup power that WHS had.

Just thought this would be a "good to know" thing for some of the users here.

Learn LINUX and spend the $700 on something worth buying.

True on the price (although Essentials is actually $500).  The trial is 180 days though, and much like Winrar doesn't actually do anything when the trial period is up.  I get free licenses from my college.

And I know Linux, thanks (on the Dean's list).  Was the attitude really necessary?

No attitude intended. Just a statement that for $500-700 I'd rather use Linux than Windows and storage spaces or whatever they are flogging these days.

I use ESXi with:

ClearOS (Gateway)

CentOS (MySQL Database)

Windows 7 (XBMC Master)

Windows 7 (Usenet)

unRAID (Storage)

ClearOS is my Firewall, Gateway, DHCP, VPN, RADIUS and Proxy.

Im not sure what features you need, but with an assortment of virtualised O/S you should be able to get an even better experience then WHS.
