Upgrade of parity disk from 2 TB to 3 TB shows Parity as Wrong

Featured Replies

Hey all-

I am attempting to upgrade my parity disk from a 2 TB to a 3 TB disk.  I am running version 5.04.

I precleared 3 times to test the drive and tested fine.  I shutdown the server and swapped my 2 TB parity drive for the 3 TB drive (leaving the 2 TB drive out of the system).

I powered on, and it sees the drive and also sees that i do not have a parity drive.  I tried to add the new drive to the array as parity.  It now shows as red balled, and under the device where it says parity, it says "Wrong" and lists the old drive in italics.

Under Array Status, it shows Stopped. Upgrading parity.

I am a bit nervous to do anything else at this point.  Should I attempt to start parity?  Do i wait for it to stop saying upgrading parity?  Any info is GREATLY appreciated.

Stop the array.  Unassign the parity disk (which is probably still the old 2TB drive).

Start the array -- it should show parity as missing.

Stop the array.  Assign the new 3TB disk as parity.

Start the array ... and wait for it to do the parity sync.

Done  :)    Now run a parity check to confirm all went well.

Thanks Gary-

I finally grew a pair and hit the button to start the array.  After all, it did say replacing parity.  It did sync parity and came up all green.  I did NOT like seeing Wrong under the parity drive (thats what scared me a bit).

IN the middle of the parity check now.  Thanks again for the reply.
