January 15, 201412 yr Hi all, simple questions, I was testing a fresh install of my new system. I downloaded unRAID copied to a new flash drive and made it bootable. Booted the server with the new flash drive. I add the drives to the array and then activate shares and when I go to add shared drives and the original shares are showing. 1. Does the shared info exist on each drive, hence the fresh install is reading that info? 2. When doing a fresh install as outlined above, does unRAID clear the drives or does it detect the drives are from an unRAID setup and keeps all the data intact? Thanks for the help
January 15, 201412 yr If the drives are from an old unRAID install and you did not preclear or format them, then the data on them is untouched. unRAID creates a share from any directories at the root level of any of the drives. So basically unRAID just recreated your old install shares based on what's on the drives.

January 15, 201412 yr You would still need to configure all options in the unRAID WebGUI, as well as the options for the user shares. Since the directory was existing on the disks you added to the array, the user share was auto created by unRAID, but I assume all of the options will be defaulted. You need to configure things like allocation method, split level, included/excluded drives, etc. And yes, you would need to reinstall your plugins.
