January 16, 201412 yr Hi all, if I simply delete the files off one of my drives by deleting them on the shared drive will this impact parity? How will parity handle files deleted directly?
January 16, 201412 yr Parity is automatically updated when you make any changes to the drives -- whether through user shares or directly via the disk shares. ... i.e. your parity will still be good if you do as you asked.
January 16, 201412 yr Author My reasoning is that I have a drive with errors that I just wrote to and so by simply deleting the files and have parity update I am hoping that swapping in a new drive would be faster due to no files would need to be replaced from the old drive and so rebuilding the new drive would be quick. Is this a correct assumption?
January 16, 201412 yr Nope. The time it takes to rebuild a drive is the same no matter what the contents.
January 16, 201412 yr Author Is the array functional during that process? Will the server be still able to stream existing content etc. ?
January 16, 201412 yr Author Btw, one other question, if I take the drive having errors out of the array, will the array start without a replacement? Or do I need a spare drive to replace the drive until I get a permanent replacement?
