January 16, 201412 yr So I am getting the error below when I started to run pre clear on a drive that was giving errors. I am thinking the drive is about to die? Run the manufacturers drive diagnostics, report it if requested during the RMA process.
January 16, 201412 yr Author It was originally an external drive which I popped out of it's enclosure, so can't RMA the drive, although it is about 2 years old at this point also, so probably out of warranty.

You can still attempt to RMA it. Some people have successfully RMA'd external drives that have been removed from their enclosures, some haven't. Can't hurt to try.
January 16, 201412 yr Author True I will check out their RMA process, maybe I'll get lucky :-) Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
January 17, 201412 yr Author So I pulled the drive and put it into a USB enclosure and ran SeaTools on the drive and it passed (long test). Should I be looking at cables instead or was the original SMART test fail a more reliable indicator than passing SeaTools test?
January 17, 201412 yr Check this out, maybe it's a firmware thing. http://forums.seagate.com/t5/Laptop-HDD-Laptop-SSHD-Momentus/Constantly-increasing-quot-end-to-end-error-quot-counts/m-p/127644 http://www.overclock.net/t/1256011/end-to-end-error-detection-failed I would still plug in the values to see if there is an RMA available.
January 17, 201412 yr Author I did check the drive on their site for RMA and it is available for RMA, although I would be skeptical that they would accept the bare drive as an RMA (I dumped the enclosure a while back). The firmware is something I will check out when I get home, thanks for the heads up on the linked post.
January 17, 201412 yr No, in-warranty, drive has ever been refused for RMA as far as I know. It not likely cost effective to police RMAs.
