One disk is filling up more than the others (high-water)

Featured Replies

Hello all,

my first drive(disk1) seems to be fuilling up more than the other drives(comparing disk1 to disk2 as both as 3TB each). not sure why this is occuring as all my shares are spanned accross all disk and all disks/shares are using highwater

The drives won't fill uniformly.    With high-water, the currently selected disk will be used until it's 1/2 full.  Then the next disk will be used until it's 1/2 full.  etc.

So, for example, if you're using a couple 3TB drives, disk1 will be used until it's got less than 1.5TB left; then disk 2 will be used until it has less than 1.5TB left;  then disk1 will be used again until 1/2 of the remaining space is used (i.e. until it's got less than 750GB left);  etc.

If you want the disks to be used uniformly, select "Most Free" as the allocation method.
