January 27, 201412 yr I am fairly new to Unraid and had a friend help me set it up about 1 year ago. Anyway tonight I was going through setting up some shares and just trying to do some cleanup. Long story short, I deleted the server name and didn't put anything back in, when I restarted the server I wasn't able to connect to it anymore. I could put the IP address in and still nothing. So I went to my router to see if it showed up on the network and it isn't there either. If anybody knows if the server not having a name is the problem, or if it is something else, I would appreciate all help. Also if it does need a name, how can I go rename it if I cannot connect to it. Thanks.
January 27, 201412 yr This is a new one! I'm not sure exactly HOW to fix this problem. The following is a GUESS, but might work. Assuming that the ONLY thing wrong is that you deleted the name of your server, but you might try this: Look on your FLASH drive in the CONFIG folder for 'ident.cfg' Edit with a text editor that's compatible with unix. The second line should be the name of your unRAID server. My file looks like this: # Generated settings: NAME="Tower" COMMENT="Media server" SECURITY="user" WORKGRO... Try putting your unRAID server name between the double quotes following NAME= and saving the file back to disk.
January 27, 201412 yr Author Thanks for the help, it worked. I couldn't understand why it not having a name would remove it from my network map on my router. That was a weird one for me. I fought with it for a while before posting to no avail. Thank you for your help.
