Unusual disk activity

Featured Replies

Hi, looking for some quick help on this.  I noticed the lights on my disks are CONSTANTLY flickering.  I don't remember seeing this on 4.7 (recently upgraded to 5.04).  Its pretty much stock, except I have installed Dynamix (and of course unmenu as i cannot live without unmenu :) ).

I have attached my syslog.  I took a quick look at it and see spindowns, but those disks are definitely being accessed.

I was wondering...I have left the admin web page open all night (and it is still open).  Could that be causing this?

Any help is greatly appreciated and will result in a virtual beer for you!  ::)

So it LOOKS like that my issue was in fact that the web admin page was open.

I have started reenabling things individually to see if the "problem" stays fixed and will post here my results.

Thanks for reading.

This has been extensively discussed in the Dynamix webGui topic.

Since Dynamix operates in an active way to stay up-to-date, it accesses emhttp (web server) at regular intervals. The "side-effect" of this is that emhttp upon each http request makes a background access to the drives, independent of the info asked in the http request.

You can set Dynamix in the old fashion way (manual mode), which requires the user the click on the refresh button to get a status update.

See settings -> User Preferences -> Display Settings -> Real-time page updates = disabled

(these settings are also explained in the OT of Dynamix webGui.

Appreciate it.  And once again, nice job on dynamix.  I'm liking it.
