Turn regular case into a JBOD/DAS case w/ SFF-8088 connection

Featured Replies

This little pcb will turn a regular computer case into a JBOD/DAS case and allow use of standard power supply.

Put a SAS expander inside the case and a Supermicro CBL-0167L cascading cable and you can connect it through SFF-8088 to your main unRAID box. We just need multiple volume support for unRAID - any plans for it?

I went the cheap route and modified a power supply to be always on.  The power supply powers all my drives and drive cooling fans separate from my server.

I can still see where there could be a use for this product though.

What does the modification include? Is it possible to turn it off by pressing 4 seconds or so on the power switch?

You ground the green wire.  There are plenty of instructions out there.  You just use the rocker switch on the power supply to control power.

Have you used this and what are you using to mount HD?  I would like to use a sas2 backplane but I need to figure out how to mount.

You're about 6 years late to the party.

Find any case with multiple HDD bays that you want to use as an expander.

The easiest way is to use a back to back connector that slots into a PCI-E expansion back plane and coverts SFF-8088 (external) to SFF-8087 (internal) then use SFF-8087 to 4xSata breakout cables to connect to each drives.
