January 12, 200917 yr Does unRaid at any point and time level the data accross all the disks? ie, say you have 10 disks, 8 of them near full, and you add two more, does it transfer some of the data off the 8 previous disks to the new disks, or does nothing change?
January 12, 200917 yr unRAID does not move any data on its own once it has been written... (other than if initially written to a cache drive. Once moved from the cache drive, it is not moved. It is up to you to organize storage... there are just too many possible sets of files, and too many ways to arrange them when you add a new disk to even attempt to guess your intention for the new space. You can move your files as you please on the disks, as long as the array is not stopped, parity is maintained. Be aware, moving terrabytes of data from one disk to another takes hours, regardless of how you go about it. Joe L.
January 12, 200917 yr ...but unRAID *will* use the appropriate disk in a user share to help with this problem (it is not as smart as someone would want it, but still it does)
