SNAP Plugin for unRAID v6 - DEPRECATED

Featured Replies

There is a new plugin that has the functionality of SNAP that integrates better with unRAID V6.  The plugin is here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=38635.0  I recommend you convert to this plugin.  I will maintain SNAP as long as I can with my limited time to work on it, but I won't make any enhancements.

Do not use this version of SNAP on unRAID v5!

SNAP is now ready for unRAID v6.  Remember that unRAID v6 is Beta and SNAP is also considered Beta.

SNAP has been updated to run on V6b5a or later.  If you have a current version of SNAP installed, use the following procedure:

- Delete /boot/config/plugins/snap directory.  You will loose your drive settings and will have to re-name your drives.

- Delete the /boot/config/plugins/snap-x86_64.plg file.

- Install SNAP using the 'Extensions' install in unRAID. - described below.

Once the SNAP plugin is installed, you will see it in the plugins page and will update it from there.  SNAP is updated in the SNAP page.  The plugin is installed, removed, and updated from the plugin manager in unRAID.

An previous version of SNAP on V6bx cannot be upgraded on the SNAP status page.  This is due to incompatibilities between V6 beta versions.

The operation of SNAP is the same as the v5 version with the exception that the plugin is different.

SNAP is hosted on GitHub here: https://github.com/dlandon/unraid-snap/.

Plugins in V6 are managed on the 'Extensions' page.  Cut and paste the following in the 'Install Extensions' line and click on the 'Install' button.  SNAP will be installed.

https://github.com/dlandon/unraid-snap/raw/master/snap-x86_64.plg

The main difference in the SNAP v5 and V6 is that the 64 bit version of inotify is installed.

This post http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=29519.0 will describe the operation of SNAP in both versions of unRAID.

If you are using the ntfs-3g plugin, install the new ntfs-3g plugin.

https://github.com/dlandon/unraid-snap/raw/master/ntfs-3g-x86_64.plg

Be sure to remove any ntfs-3g packages and any ntfs-3g plugin from previous versions before installing the new version.

A new version of SNAP is available with an updated jQuery.

The 1.05 version of powerdown works with SNAP.

Do you still need installplg ntfs-3g.plg ? Also I created a share called VM with SNAP and its working great, however, i cannot access it VIA SMB share it keeps asking me for a user name and password.

You will need the ntfs-3g-x86_64.plg for unRAID v6.  ntfs-3g.plg is 32 bit only (unRAID v5).

Please post a log so I can see what is going on with the share.

attached in my syslog, where are the snap related logs?

You are mounting a ntfs drive and trying to write to it?

I don't see the ntfs-3g drives being installed.

Nope its reiserfs, its my old cache drive. I see the mount in unraid and can read/write to it. I see the share in windows, but when i try to access it via windows it asks for a user name and password. Blank doesnt work, root doesnt work, and a custom user i created didnt work.

Try re-booting your Windows computer.  This happened to me when I updated unRAID.

A new version of SNAP is available.  SNAP was not recognizing hot plugged USB drives.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've just started using SNAP; I'm trying it as a way to run an unRAID VM outside of the array or cache drive. The integration with unRAID is nice. I'm not sure if I understand the logging function: if you turn "Watch" on does that cost in terms of performance. If watch is off does that stop the system from logging SNAP related events?

I will continue reading through the original SNAP thread....I only read enough to get the commands to get things set up.

Just a FYI, I added to a unRAID VM thread about using SNAP along with some first impressions. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=32170.msg293976#msg293976

Thank you dlandon for your hard work on this project!!

The logging function is only a webgui logging display function.  It doesn't really cost a lot in resources.  It does not turn logging on or off.

Before you start your VM, you'll want to mount your drive.  This can be done through a script:

/boot/config/plugins/snap/snap.sh -m ShareName ---> to mount the drive

/boot/config/plugins/snap/snap.sh -ms ShareName ---> to mount and share the drive

then start your VM.

I would recommend a sata drive and formatted with ext(x) or reiserfs format so you will have full permission control.

ntfs3g falls short on full permission control.

SNAP Version 5.26 is available.  SNAP will now adjust to the white/black theme of Dynamix.

Are there plans to make this work on the new b4?? SNAP doesn't see my disks anymore.

Are there plans to make this work on the new b4?? SNAP doesn't see my disks anymore.

Yes, but there are several considerations.

- The change required for V6 Beta4 is not backwards compatible to V5 or V6 Beta3.  Tom upgraded PHP and the changes needed for V6 Beta4 are not backwards compatible.

- The plugin manager needs to be finalized and SNAP modified for the plugin manager scheme.  Once this is done, the next release of SNAP can be made compatible with the V5.0.6 and V6 plugin managers.  I assume that the V5 plugin manager will be the same as V6 with 32 bit plugins.

- A new version of SNAP would only be compatible with V5.0.6 and greater, and V6.

SNAP doesn't see your disks because the PHP script that gets the drive status is not working in V6 Beta4.

SNAP cannot be upgraded in version because all the current installations will see the upgraded version and when installed would break existing installations.  It would be best to wait and release the next SNAP version as an unRAID plugin through the plugin manager.  This would allow upgrades to V6 Beta4 and greater, and then v5.0.6 once it is released without breaking any legacy installations.

Is there another way to mount a disk for 6b4 while we wait for php to be finalized? I would like to mount a spare hard drive and have it run as my VM drive with plugins installed on this drive and keep my cache drive spun down unless the mover is running. My spare drive has much more space than my cache drive. Are there flaws with this plan?

You could follow the directions here for that:http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=30496.msg274119#msg274119.  Just follow the directions that are different for a HDD from an SSD posted either in the first post or later in the thread.

Awesome, Thanks! I knew I had read that post before but could not remember the title for the life of me.

I have installed SNAP for unRaid 6. I do not see anything in the web GUI of SNAP when I connect a drive or mount it or share it. I can see the share in SMB though after it is shared. Since I have previously only used old SNAP which did not have a web interface, I am not sure what functionality is provided here.

Secondly, can someone please help me with the hotplug feature? I dont want to save some wrong instructions and have data copied to the array.

In the sample code below I am not sure what I am to edit if I was to say copy a USB drive with 2 folders on it say 'Movies' and 'Music' and I wanted its contents to be moved to the exact same named shares on the array every time I hooked up the drive. Heck, in the example below I am not even sure what the name of the SNAP drive is  :'(

'FlashBackup')

LOGFILE=/var/log/FlashBackups

logger Started -t$PROG_NAME

echo "Started" > $LOGFILE

rsync -a -v -q --delete /boot/ $MOUNTPOINT/ 2>&1 >> $LOGFILE

Hello, I think I can help with this part. From what I understand V6 uses a different version of, I think, Perl and Tom said at the outset of V6 he was working on a package manager for the GUI and would get with developers to incorporate their projects. But that doesn't seem to be happening and so things are in limbo. My assumption is It's probably better to wait for the framework and fix it once than to try and fix it now and later.

I have a fix for SNAP on V6 B5a, but it is not backwards compatible with B4 or V5.  Until the plugin manager is finalized nothing can be done that makes it easy to maintain backwards compatibility and I don't have the time to try to keep up with the changes while V6 is in Beta.  When V6 is out of Beta and the plugin manager is finalized, SNAP can be fixed.

Hi !

I has a SATA disk (ntfs at this time) plugged on my NAS, I want to dedicate it for MySQL and Apache without integrate it on unraid Array

I've installed SNAP plugin because i have understanded that it can do that I want, is it correct ?

But, i don't have any idea how to do this, Unraid see my disk not part of the array but SNAP not seems to see anything.

Thanks for help.

Php has been changed in B5a.  I have SNAP working in V6 5a, but it is not backwards compatible to V5 or V6 B4.  Changes can be made once V6 is final and the plugin architecture has been finalized.
