RickInHouston
I've done a search and nothing comes up on these forums. Unraid 5.0 and Windows 8.1 issue. I've searched the web and get many possibilities for this but nothing that works. Windows 8.1 both hardwired ethernet and wireless. Most times when I want to copy files over to my unraid server I can't either find it under Network in my Explorer, or, when it does - it finds my disks and shares but when I click on any of them I get 'can't access...' Sometimes a reboot works and sometimes just walking away works, sometimes going into a browser and spinning up the drives works, ... Windows 7 wasn't a problem like this. Does anyone know why Windows 8 treats unraid differently? What must I change on my computer or server to remove this annoyance? Quote Link to comment
trurl
What does ipconfig show? Quote Link to comment

garycase
Sounds like a permissions issue. For a home network, you'll have a lot fewer issues if you simply disable password-protected sharing on the Win8 machine. Quote Link to comment
RickInHouston
Here's the box that pops up when trying to access my unraid. I am on a home network and have no passwords. Thoughts? Quote Link to comment
dgaschk
Is the Windows workgroup set to a common value? Can you connect using the IP address, i.e., \\IP.Address.of.server? Quote Link to comment
RickInHouston
Workgroup is under the same name. The IP address does bring up the GUI for my tower2. Quote Link to comment
trurl
Workgroup is under the same name. The IP address does bring up the GUI for my tower2. But does the ip address bring up the shares in explorer? What are the ip addresses of your unRAID and your Windows PC? Quote Link to comment
dgaschk
Workgroup is under the same name. The IP address does bring up the GUI for my tower2. \\IP.address.of.server NOT //IP.Address.of.server. Use FORWARD slashed NOT backwards slashes. Quote Link to comment
RickInHouston
I didn't know it did that (// vs \\)! Cool. Yes it does bring up my shares. But will have to check a few tries. Usually, once I can access the shares they stay accessible. I'll see if this continues to work. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
RickInHouston
Looks to be working great! I rebooted the machine. Couldn't go into explorer and access shares. Got the same pop up box. Went to the browser and entered \\ipaddressofserver and it popped right up! Perfect. Quote Link to comment
jljude
I am having this same problem. I didn't change anything that I know about. I can get access to shares via \\iP address, but I used to always be able to get to \\tower and now it asks for network password. When it asks, it puts my computer name in front like PC Name\root and when I put in my password, it just says access is denied. I've ran newperms, rebooted router, PC, and unraid box and still no help. Any ideas what I can do to troubleshoot this? Quote Link to comment
ijuarez
Have you tried \\tower.local\ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote Link to comment
